Travelers are concerned about the environment when they travel. The Travel with Care Code identifies three important ways that travelers can protect nature and the environment while traveling.
Protect and respect Nature and Heritage in your Destination.
Visitors travel to destinations to see unique natural and cultural attractions, but many are unaware of the best ways to behave in the places they visit.
Destinations are helping visitors with education programs designed to guide them on how to behave in their new environment—whether it’s a pristine wilderness or an ancient archeological site. Some destinations even encourage visitors to pledge to be responsible travelers when they visit.
Travelers concerned with broader environmental issues can be encouraged to be mindful of two additional recommendations designed to protect the planet.
Be an energy-efficient traveler.
Many travelers are concerned about climate change and the impact their travel has on the environment. Some DMOs are helping travelers with guides to EV charging stations and new “slow travel” tourism experiences on bikes, trains, or walking trails through the destination.
Be waste-wise.
Reducing waste can be challenging when traveling, so making it easy to do the right thing is critical. Destinations can help in a variety of ways – from explaining local recycling procedures to ensuring public spaces have plenty of trash cans to discouraging the use of single-use plastics.
