Responsible Tourism Improves Destination Quality of Life

Does responsible tourism improve quality of life in host communities? It sure does.

In a study conducted in 3 popular Indian destinations, researchers Mathew and Sreejesh (2017) found that responsible tourism development incorporated community engagement, employment opportunities, skill development opportunities, and public awareness of tourism. The study recommended ensuring local ownership of tourism development and their need to build capacity in local government and other organizations to ensure sustainable tourism development. Mathew and Sreejesh also found that destination sustainability contributes to the quality of life in their host communities.
