Rewarding for responsible behavior

Small incentives can turn responsible behavior into a memorable part of the travel experience, showing how DMOs can motivate visitors to actively care for the places they explore.

Lexington Pick Up Perks, a new initiative from VisitLex, is an initiative designed to support the community while giving visitors a perk for behaving responsibly.

Pick Up Perks invites people, locals, and visitors to pick up litter in parks and neighborhoods in Lexington and get free drip coffee from a local coffee shop as a perk.

The participants can pick up clean-up supplies either from the Lexington Visitor Center or any of the participatory coffee shops. After throwing away the liters they can get their free coffee. Participants are encouraged to share their good work on social media to inspire others.

This initiative provides the opportunity for visitors who seek engagement with communities they visit. This also helps visitors to create more memories and connect with locals, while having a positive impact.

 Tip:

DMOs can engage local businesses in volunteer initiatives to promote responsible behaviors while supporting local commerce.

Offer small rewards or incentives for sustainable actions to make responsible tourism enjoyable and memorable.

Encourage visitors to take part in simple, rewarding actions that benefit the community, like picking up litter, in exchange for small perks, such as a local coffee. This creates meaningful experiences, strengthens connections with the destination, and inspires responsible behavior.
